A packaging drawing becomes useful when its dimensions, material assumptions and assembly method can be checked together. FARGPACK Packaging Studio brings those decisions into a browser workspace: choose a structure, enter dimensions, inspect its flat cutting and creasing layout, and export a full-size file for a prototype. Use it to move from a proposed box size to something you can measure and assemble. The template still needs a physical trial before a production order.
This guide follows the live studio checked on 3 October 2026. The library displayed 43 templates. Its worked example uses the rollover hinged-lid mailer, code 150010, with 200 × 140 × 50 mm internal dimensions. Template counts and available fields can change, so use the current library and the selected structure’s own controls rather than expecting every package to share the mailer’s settings.
Who should use the studio
The studio is useful to packaging designers exploring a structure, small businesses discussing a package with a supplier, and students learning how a flat net relates to an assembled object. A designer can compare proposed internal dimensions before placing artwork. A business owner can produce a clearer sample brief. A student can distinguish a cut edge from a crease and investigate why thickness changes a closure. These uses all benefit from a measured example rather than a decorative box image.
Start with the product, its protection and its opening sequence. Measure the space needed for inserts, wrapping or multiple items; do not enter the product’s bare dimensions and assume the package will accommodate them automatically. Decide which dimensions are requirements and which are exploratory. The studio supplies a geometric starting point. It does not select a shipping grade, validate a load-bearing handle or approve a material for a particular product.
Read the workspace before changing values
The control area groups the job into package structure, dimensions, and material or finish. The structure card opens the library. Dimension controls include a unit selector, Inside, Outside and Manufacturing references, and fields such as length L, width W and height H. Some structures expose additional fields. Material controls provide starting values for thickness and clearance. The visual area offers 3D and 2D views, with separate viewing controls rather than a second set of manufacturing dimensions.
The question-mark button opens the short guide. The language button switches the interface, and the English tool link uses ?lang=en. Use the labels alongside the fields, especially when moving between package families. A value used for a mailer side wall need not have the same role in a bag or flexible package. Reset restores defaults, so record the chosen structure and measurements before using it during a comparison.

Choose a structure by how it assembles
Open the structure card and search by name or template code. The library also provides a package-type filter and previous/next navigation. Search for 150010 to follow this example. Confirm that the selection is the hinged-lid mailer with folded sides and a one-piece construction. The template’s identity matters: entering the same length, width and height into another family does not produce the same blank, closure or assembly sequence.
For a real job, shortlist structures against access, assembly, storage and protection requirements. Check whether the template uses separate pieces, a glued joint, a closure tongue or another construction detail. Read its structure-specific guidance when shown. A screen silhouette may make two boxes look equivalent while their assembly effort differs. Keep the template code with the exported files so the next person can trace the sample back to the correct starting geometry.
Keep the dimension reference explicit
Choose Inside when specifying the space available to the contents. Outside describes the estimated overall package. Manufacturing is the tool’s reference for dimensions before the faces are assembled. Switching references is intended to preserve the same box while presenting different measurements. It is not a request to resize the package. Keep the active reference in your notes, because a bare statement such as “200 by 140 by 50” is ambiguous at handoff.
The unit selector offers mm, cm and inch. Thickness and closure clearance remain in millimeters even when the main dimensions are displayed in another unit. This is easy to miss when switching to centimeters for a customer conversation. Change one setting at a time and read the resulting fields and size summary. A sudden size discrepancy is a reason to check units and the selected reference before changing the geometry again.
Set material assumptions deliberately
For the example mailer, select the E-flute preset. Its initial thickness is 1.50 mm and its trial closure clearance is 0.50 mm. The 350 gsm paper preset uses an estimated 0.45 mm thickness and its own starting clearance. A material preset updates these values, after which they can be edited. Other template families can offer different materials and specialist fields; use the settings appropriate to the chosen structure.
A grammage is not a universal thickness measurement. Obtain the actual stock measurement or a supplier-confirmed starting value, then make a sample with that stock. Treat the preset as a convenient first input. If you change material after manually tuning the fit, recheck both thickness and clearance because the preset may replace your edits. Do not use clearance as an unexplained way to force a difficult closure; record the adjustment and check the physical effect.
Follow the tested mailer example
- Select template 150010, the rollover hinged-lid mailer.
- Choose mm and Inside. Enter L = 200, W = 140 and H = 50.
- Use E-flute with thickness 1.50 mm and closure clearance 0.50 mm.
- Open the 2D layout and use Fit to see the complete blank.
- Read the outside summary and flat-layout size before exporting.
- Export SVG and PDF, then open the downloaded files independently.
In the live check, those inputs produced an outside summary of 203.5 × 143.5 × 53.5 mm. The visible net measured 426 × 432.2 mm. These are observations for this template and setting combination, not a universal compensation formula for every structure. If your result differs, compare the template code, selected material, thickness, clearance and dimension reference before concluding that the tool is wrong.
To check conversion without changing the box, switch to cm and Outside. The tested fields became 20.35, 14.35 and 5.35. The underlying package was preserved. Returning to the original reference should help you reconcile the same physical object in different descriptions. This is a useful team exercise: ask another person to reconstruct the setup from the recorded inputs, rather than trying to infer the box from a screenshot alone.

Inspect the 2D blank before artwork
The flat view contains cut and crease information. Use its plus and minus buttons to inspect details, then Fit to recover the full layout. The crease checkbox controls crease visibility in the view. Check flap shapes, fold relationships, narrow connections and the outline of every required piece. Read the cut/crease legend rather than treating all visible lines as cutting paths. A production operator still needs an unambiguous mapping to the receiving software’s operations.
Separate the blank’s size from the exported page’s size. The dimension shown below the layout excludes the file’s margins. In the example, the visible 426 × 432.2 mm net was exported on a 446 × 452.2 mm page. That extra extent is not a resized box. Measure a known feature inside the file as well as the page boundary when checking an import.
Use folding and 3D as geometric explanations
Where WebGL works, the interface provides rotation and zoom, a home view, automatic rotation and a PNG snapshot control. Opening or separation and folding sliders describe different aspects of the model. One explores opening or the relation between parts; the other moves between flat and assembled states. The animation control can help explain a sequence to someone who finds a flat drawing difficult to interpret.
The 3D renderer was unavailable in the cloud browser used for this guide’s check. The 2D layout and file exports worked, while camera and snapshot functions could not be verified there. This is a limitation of that test environment, not evidence that every user’s 3D view fails. If you see the WebGL message, use the available 2D route and inspect the files. Do not treat an animation as collision testing, closure validation or manufacturing approval.
Place artwork on the matching full net
The artwork control accepts PNG or JPEG images covering the complete blank. The studio maps that image over the outside surfaces, while the inside keeps the material color. Prepare the image against the same template and dimensions you are evaluating. A front-panel image alone cannot accurately cover all faces of a full-net mapping. Add clear temporary panel labels to your own proof if orientation is difficult to follow.
The interface includes a FARGPACK exterior-design toggle, an uploaded-artwork removal control and a separate print-artwork SVG download. The cutting exports explicitly contain cut and crease lines only, without the logo or uploaded image. The separate artwork route should not be confused with those files, nor assumed to make raster artwork vector. Artwork upload, mapping and snapshot output were not runtime-tested for this guide; verify their actual result before promising a production deliverable.
Choose and verify the export
Use Export dieline to open the format choices. SVG is useful for inspection and editing in vector software. DXF suits a CAD or cutting workflow that accepts it. PDF provides a single page sized to the blank and its margins. The tested SVG carried width 446 mm and height 452.2 mm; the PDF measured the same physical page size and contained vector drawing paths. The SVG, PDF and DXF download actions all completed in the live check.
Open the actual files after downloading. Check dimensions, missing segments, crease visibility and the receiving application’s unit interpretation. A successful download proves that a file was produced; it does not establish that every downstream program interprets it correctly. Keep the source template code and settings beside the export, and use filenames that distinguish structural revisions from artwork revisions. Avoid overwriting the last sample you have already assembled and measured.

Print at full size and build a sample
The PDF is not automatically tiled across A4 sheets. Print at 100% or actual size, with Fit to page disabled. If the printer cannot accommodate the page, use a deliberate full-scale tiling workflow or a suitable larger-format service, then verify a known measurement. Never assume that a page fitting neatly onto office paper retained its manufacturing scale. An accurate screen ruler does not correct an automatically reduced print.
Make the first sample with material representative of the intended stock. Check whether the contents enter easily, the side walls assemble, the closure engages and the package can be reopened as intended. Inspect the fold positions and artwork orientation. Record what was changed and why, then repeat the relevant checks after each revision. A sample that looks right while empty still needs evaluation with the intended contents and handling conditions.
Resolve common mistakes before handoff
If the package suddenly looks too large, inspect units and reference first. If a closure becomes tighter after a material switch, recheck the automatically updated thickness and clearance. If the exported page seems larger than the on-screen net, compare the margins rather than scaling it down. If artwork is missing from a cut-file export, that matches the documented separation of structural lines and print artwork. If 3D is unavailable, inspect the explicit browser message and continue with 2D when offered.
Before sending the package onward, record the template code, internal or external specification, unit, material assumption, thickness, clearance and revision. Include which file is structural and which is artwork. For the wider handoff, read FARGPACK’s packaging-file preparation guide and PDF preflight guide. For packages intended for repeated use, the refillable-packaging article adds useful questions about the user’s handling sequence.
A good studio result is a traceable prototype: a known structure, explicit assumptions, a verified full-size export and a physical sample with recorded findings. Start with the tested mailer exercise, then apply the same checks to a structure that fits your product. Keep the supplier’s production requirements in the review, and let measured samples determine the final adjustments.
