A social feed can look consistent because the logo, image, and headline occupy the same positions in every post. That arrangement becomes less useful when a longer title, a price offer, or a different kind of photograph arrives. A good template gives the content enough room while preserving the visual features people recognize.
Build template families with shared typography, margins, color roles, logo rules, image direction, and grid logic. Within each family, let composition, text density, and motion respond to the message. The team can then produce varied content without rebuilding the brand for every post.
Begin with the content the team actually publishes
Collect real examples of product posts, educational content, quotes, announcements, offers, case studies, behind-the-scenes material, and testimonials. Include the formats the team needs, such as Stories, Reel covers, and carousels. This inventory should determine the template set.
A product post usually gives the image priority. An educational post needs a clear heading and a readable explanation. An offer needs a hierarchy for the price and its conditions, while a case study may require a fair before-and-after comparison. Plan those information relationships before choosing decorative frames.
Build four to six template families
A practical starting point might include image-led layouts, type-led layouts, product cards, educational carousels, quotes or testimonials, and Reel covers. Four to six families is a planning suggestion, not a requirement for every brand.
Give each family a few clear variations: a large image with a short headline, for example, or a smaller image with supporting copy. Shared rules make the set easier to learn and update than dozens of unrelated templates.
Define the fixed elements of the brand
Write down the rules that connect different compositions:
- Typography: define roles for headlines, supporting copy, and small details, with approved weights.
- Margins and grid: preserve clear relationships between spacing and alignment, even when dimensions change.
- Logo: specify approved versions, placements, clear space, and when the symbol can appear alone.
- Pattern: define scale, density, direction, and where it can appear without harming readability.
- Color: approve text/background pairings and distinguish primary, supporting, and accent roles.
- Images: document lighting, backgrounds, shadows, cropping, and treatment.
Allow image/text balance, headline scale, crop, background state, and motion to vary within these rules. If the identity uses a corner-radius system, document it too. A campaign color can be temporary, but its scope and end date should be clear; every post does not need every color in the palette.

Define several approved logo positions
A logo does not have to occupy the same corner in every asset. You might approve a top placement, a bottom placement, and a centered symbol on the closing slide. Test each against light and dark images and preserve the required clear space.
Give editors a small set of deliberate options. This allows variation without making logo placement arbitrary.
Plan safe zones for short-form video
Meta’s Reels advertising guidance recommends vertical 9:16 video with audio, and keeping key visual messages inside the safe zone. It also provides a safe-zone checker. This advertising guidance should be distinguished from testing an organic post in the app.
Add guides to the working file for areas that interface elements may cover at the top, bottom, and sides. Keep essential headlines, logos, and product details clear of those areas. Check the actual preview rather than treating a single pixel measurement as a permanent brand rule.
Adapt the composition to each placement
Use a vertical 9:16 Reel master where it meets current delivery requirements, then prepare Stories and feed assets for their intended placements. A feed post or carousel may call for portrait, square, or another supported ratio.
Start from shared content and rearrange it deliberately. Automatically cropping one image can remove a price or leave the product away from the focal point. Review each version as a composition with its own reading space.

Check platform specifications at the source
An old “Instagram sizes” article is not enough to approve a current export. Use official documentation, upload previews, and a test of the actual exported file.
The brand guide can direct the team to use the approved platform specifications. Keep dimensions, file types, and safe-zone guides in a separate delivery sheet with a revision date and version number, so a platform change does not require rewriting the identity manual.
Give a carousel a clear sequence
Open with a question or useful outcome, develop the explanation in steps, and close with a summary or relevant action. For an educational example about reading a product label, the cover could introduce the problem, each body slide could explain one piece of information, and the last slide could provide a checklist.
Use a consistent grid and vary the visual rhythm as the explanation progresses. Repeating the full title, logo, and footer at the same size on every slide can consume space the content needs. Each slide should still make sense if saved or shared separately.
Build headline-length variants
Test a three-word, eight-word, and fifteen-word headline as deliberately different examples, rather than mandatory word limits. Prepare short, medium, and long headline states with enough room for the image and supporting copy.
If the text exceeds the readable capacity of the layout, shorten it or spread the explanation across slides. Repeatedly reducing the font size hides a copy problem and makes the final post difficult to read on a phone.
Test Arabic and English separately
Arabic requires checks for right-to-left flow, connected letterforms, diacritics, mixed-language text, numerals, and line height. Simply mirroring an English template does not establish that the Arabic version works.
Document which elements change direction: a text block may move or realign while the photograph, logo, and pattern remain unchanged. In particular, do not mirror a product photograph containing printed text. Use real examples in both languages to test the result.
Crop images according to their content
Useful image states include a centered product, a portrait on either side, a full-bleed image, a detail crop, and a photograph with negative space for text. Choose the focal point before cropping, and protect faces, product names, and details that explain the message.
Do not stretch or squeeze a photograph to fill its container. A flexible system offers suitable image zones rather than forcing every subject into one square box.
Document the photography direction
Lighting, background, shadow, color temperature, camera height, composition, and perspective can give photographs a shared identity. Include examples of these decisions alongside the layout rules.
If the photographs are inconsistent without a reason, a graphic frame will not solve the underlying issue. The images may need to be reselected, reshot, or given a more consistent treatment.
Make each post work outside the profile grid
Splitting one large image into nine posts makes each piece dependent on the surrounding arrangement. New posts, Reels, or changes in presentation can disrupt the composition, and viewers may encounter only one piece in their feed.
Design each post to perform its own job. When the content genuinely needs a connected sequence, a carousel keeps that sequence within one post. Do not let a planned 3×3 color pattern take priority over the clarity of individual posts.
Give motion its own brand rules
Define intro length, title behavior, transition families, easing, image movement, and the closing frame. For example, transitions might use restrained vertical movement and similar timing while the order of scenes changes with the message.
Leave enough reading time for both languages. Check the animation during playback, including the interaction between titles, subtitles, and controls. Every video does not need exactly the same animation.
Leave room for captions and interface overlays
Account names, captions, engagement controls, calls to action, and paid-partnership labels may appear over short-form video. Allow for those elements when positioning important information.
For burned-in subtitles, control line length, contrast, and vertical clearance. Use a holding shape or overlay when needed, and keep subtitles from covering the product name or important details. Also check for overlap with captions supplied by the platform.
Choose the logo’s presence to suit the video
The logo can appear at the opening or close, or as a small mark within a safe area. A persistent watermark should remain legible without covering the product.
A long animated logo introduction can consume too much of a short video. Typography, colors, and photography also contribute to recognition, so judge the complete sequence rather than measuring branding by how many seconds a large logo is visible.
Reserve a clear call-to-action area
Choose an action that fits the post, such as “Save these steps,” “Continue through the slides,” or “Read the details in the caption.” If the placement does not support a clickable image button, do not draw one that implies unavailable functionality.
For an ad, coordinate the artwork with the platform’s actual call-to-action control. Prepare separate organic and advertising variants when the interface or destination differs.
Review ads and organic posts for their own requirements
Advertising requires checks for policies, technical specifications, platform controls, and placement-specific presentation. Meta describes tools that can adjust aspect ratio or expand an image for vertical placements.
Inspect any automated adaptation to ensure the product, wording, and composition remain correct. Supply purpose-built versions for important placements instead of relying entirely on automated changes.
Use the platform’s branded-content disclosure
Instagram’s branded-content policy requires the paid partnership label when there is an exchange of value; this can include gifted products or affiliate links. Check whether the policy applies to the particular post.
Leave room for the platform label rather than replacing it with a badge drawn into the artwork. Local disclosure requirements may also apply, so the presence of that label alone does not establish complete compliance.
Check the rights to images, music, and other content
Meta’s copyright guidance explains that buying, downloading, or crediting content does not automatically authorize every use. Use assets the team created or has appropriate permission to use, including music and materials supplied by a client.
Keep the source and usage terms with the project. Do not leave a watermarked stock preview in a publish-ready template and assume someone else will remember to replace it.
Review licenses for assets inside editable templates
A stock photograph placed in a shared library may give team members access to its source file. Check the license’s sharing and user provisions: permission to publish finished artwork does not necessarily permit distribution of an extractable original.
Use a neutral placeholder with a link to the approved asset library when appropriate, or an asset licensed for the required sharing. Adobe Stock’s license information illustrates the distinction between permitted employee or contractor sharing and stand-alone redistribution. Check the actual provider’s terms rather than assuming all stock licenses are the same.
Keep Figma components understandable
A template component might contain an image slot, headline, category, optional label, and approved logo zone. Use component properties where they make editing and selecting variants easier. Avoid collecting so many switches in one component that routine editing becomes confusing.
Test the template with someone who will use it: can they replace an image, enter a headline, and select the right state without detaching the instance or asking the designer at every step?
Use Auto Layout where it helps
Figma Auto Layout arranges elements and responds to content changes. It is useful for title stacks, labels, badges, and call-to-action blocks when padding, spacing, and resizing behavior are set appropriately.
Photographs or deliberate overlaps may still need manual positioning. Test text growth and container boundaries, and use the tool where it prevents breakage without unnecessarily restricting the composition.
Use variables for themes and sample content
Brand color variables can connect templates to the approved palette. Modes can support light and dark backgrounds or language samples; Figma string variables can help test different text content. The number of available modes depends on the plan.
Do not turn every post’s copy into a variable if ordinary text overrides are easier for editors. Choose the level of structure that reduces work and mistakes.
Deliver templates in the tool the team uses
If marketing works in Canva or Adobe Express, provide usable templates there, together with approved logo assets, colors, type rules, and patterns. A Figma file alone does not meet the need of a team that never opens it.
Rebuild and test the composition in the target tool with real content. Check font availability, permissions, and export options; capabilities can vary by tool and plan.
Identify the content zones
Name the headline, body, image, category, logo, and call-to-action areas. Use realistic sample content and mark it clearly as a sample.
Short dummy headlines and lorem ipsum do not reveal what happens to a long Arabic product name or an offer with conditions. Test those cases in their actual fields.
Stress-test Arabic text
Prepare a long product name, a two- or three-line headline, numbers in parentheses, an English term inside an Arabic sentence, and text with diacritics. Check alignment, numeral order, line spacing, letter edges, and dots.
Inspect the export as well as the working file. If the container clips diacritics or lines crowd together, correct the text area before handing over the template.
Pricing and other numeric content need flexible layouts
Test short and long prices with currencies, separators, dates, percentages, and offer codes. Do not size a field around one digit width or currency. Keep approved conditions close to the price they explain, and check bidirectional text when Arabic appears beside numbers and symbols.
The marketing or offer owner must approve prices, discounts, dates, and terms. A template does not verify them. Use an obvious instruction such as “Enter approved discount” instead of a realistic-looking percentage, and check that every placeholder has been replaced before export.

Use real, approved testimonials
A quotation layout does not authorize inventing a customer’s opinion. Use a verified quotation approved for publication, and confirm permission to display the person’s name or photograph.
In the template library, use a clear label such as “Sample testimonial text” rather than a flattering quote attributed to a fictional customer that could be mistaken for a real endorsement.
Keep before-and-after comparisons fair
Keep the crop, scale, lighting, and viewing angle comparable, and identify material differences. Do not make the earlier design unusually small or dark to make the new version look more effective.
Equivalent image slots and clear labels help. For a fuller explanation, read Before and After a Redesign: A Fair Comparison Makes the Decision Clear.
Test Reel covers in every intended view
A cover may be cropped differently in the profile grid, feed, or Reel viewer. Keep the main title and subject in a central composition that can tolerate cropping, then review every available preview in the app.
Centering alone is not a guarantee. Check the actual cover, especially when text is near the top or bottom, and retain an editable master so the crop can be adjusted.
Connect carousel slides without breaking their meaning
A line, pattern, or color can continue from one slide to the next. Avoid splitting a word or essential sentence between slides, and give each slide a complete thought that survives being saved or shared alone.
Numbering such as 1/5 can help readers follow their progress, but it is optional. Clear progression matters more than a decorative connection across the edges.
Use the approved icon family
Keep stroke weight, corners, and visual scale consistent. Mixing brand icons with unrelated stock icons and emoji can make the system harder to recognize.
Emoji can be part of the message, but their appearance varies across platforms and operating systems. Use an approved graphic asset when a stable, brand-specific appearance is important.
Check font licensing and editor access
Font terms vary by license, user count, and use. Someone editing the source may need their own license, while supplying a finished image can be treated differently from supplying an editable document. Adobe Fonts’ licensing guidance explains this distinction for its own service.
Check availability in the publishing tool so the font is not unexpectedly substituted. Read Commercial font licensing: choose what you can use and hand over, and do not package font files unless their license permits it.
Check contrast in images of text
WCAG’s minimum contrast criterion covers text and images of text, with a minimum of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, subject to specified exceptions. Use these as practical reference values; checking one image does not establish accessibility for the entire platform experience.
Avoid pale text on pale backgrounds and thin lettering over detailed photography. Try a holding shape, overlay, or different crop, then review readability at the size the audience will see.
Test the exported file on a phone
Send the exported image or video to a phone and view it at normal size without zooming. Can you read the headline, product name, and intended action? Is the logo clear without dominating the message?
A large, zoomed-in design canvas can conceal these problems. Review the delivered file, including the video in motion, rather than relying only on the working document.
Review thumbnails, interface overlays, and crops
Check the profile thumbnail, Reel preview, Story, and ad preview as relevant. A design that works full-screen can lose its meaning when reduced or cropped. Simplify unnecessary detail and preserve one clear focal point.
Inspect the platform preview with its controls, title, and visible product area. Record recurring crop corrections so the template can be fixed instead of manually repairing every post.
Name templates by purpose
Use searchable names that describe the content and format, for example:
Social/Product/PortraitSocial/Education/Carousel/CoverSocial/Education/Carousel/BodySocial/Reel/CoverSocial/Offer/Portrait
Avoid names such as “Post 1,” “Post new,” and “Post final.” Editors should be able to choose a template without opening every file.
Keep a clear version history
Add a version number, review date, and short change note, such as a safe-zone adjustment or more room for Arabic headlines. Archive older templates clearly so they are not selected for routine work.
Do not silently replace a file used by an active campaign. Notify its owner and review the effect before adopting the update. Keep long-term brand rules separate from platform specifications that need regular checking.
Interpret performance data carefully
Choose measures that fit the post’s goal: saves, shares, clicks, watch time, or completion. Review several posts in reasonably comparable conditions before judging a template. If layout effectiveness matters to a decision, use a controlled comparison where possible and define the variable you are testing.
Topic, audience, offer, timing, distribution, and advertising spend can all affect results. Record these factors and avoid attributing every improvement or decline to the layout. Do not promise an engagement increase without evidence that supports the conclusion.
Assign ownership and define what editors can change
The brand team can own the main components while publishing editors change content within approved options:
- Images and headlines can change within their designated zones.
- Colors and patterns come from approved choices.
- Layouts use tested variants; exceptions receive a review.
- Core logos and typefaces change through the brand’s approval process.
Assign someone to publish updates and review exceptions. Figma’s library documentation describes publishing assets and reviewing updates; check the team’s plan and permissions.
For the approved-source workflow, see Where Is the Right Version? Build a Figma Brand Library People Can Actually Use. If a special composition requires detaching an instance, document the reason and review the result before publication.
Example starter set
A practical kit could include a portrait product post, a full-bleed product post, an educational cover, an educational body slide, a testimonial, a Reel cover, and a Story call to action. These are seven files within shared families, not seven unrelated systems.
Add or combine templates according to the content inventory. Test how well the set supports normal work before expanding it; the number of files alone does not establish its quality.
Provide examples that expose the limits
For each family, test Arabic and English, short and long headlines, light and dark images, product close-ups, and portraits where relevant. Keep the examples with the library so editors can see the expected result.
Fix cases that break before handing the template to the team. A useful sample should reveal limitations rather than make the template look good only under ideal conditions.
Show clear examples of correct and incorrect use
Show a readable headline, one focal point, and comfortable margins beside a version with a specific problem: five unrelated type sizes, an oversized logo, pattern behind small text, or important information against the edge. Other examples can address using every color at once or adding arbitrary shadows and effects.
Explain the problem and its correction. A focused visual comparison gives editors more guidance than a general instruction to “stay on brand.”
Keep a separate export specification sheet
Retain the editable master and document each placement’s aspect ratio, output dimensions, file type, and required settings. A sheet named “Social specifications 2026” can include source links and the date of its last check.
Identify safe-zone guides by platform, placement, and review date. Do not apply an old ad guide indiscriminately to every video. When the interface changes, update the guide and retest affected templates.
Have the brand guide point to this technical sheet rather than duplicating changing specifications in multiple places. Test a real export before rolling out new settings.
Review the final version before posting
- Platform, placement, aspect ratio, crop, and safe zone.
- Spelling, text direction, numeral order, contrast, and phone readability.
- Logo version, clear space, colors, and images.
- Asset rights, testimonial approvals, and required disclosures.
- Prices, offers, conditions, dates, codes, URLs, and QR codes.
- Call to action, destination, and removal of all sample content.
- Actual platform preview and full video playback where applicable.
A template reduces layout drift but does not verify the information. Assign responsibility for approving both the content and the final export.
Template-system handover checklist
- Content inventory, template families, and required variants.
- Typography, margins, color, logo, image, icon, and motion rules.
- Arabic and English examples with headline, image, and number tests.
- Appropriate organic and ad versions with room for captions and interface elements.
- Asset sources, image and font licenses, and content approvals.
- Documented, tested export specifications and safe-zone guides.
- Searchable names, version numbers, and a clear library owner.
- Pre-publication checks and a disciplined approach to performance review.
Final takeaway
Build templates around the content the team actually publishes. Keep recognizable brand elements stable while letting the composition adapt. Test both languages, varied images, and numeric content on a phone and in the intended placement, and separate changing platform specifications from long-term brand rules. A focused, clearly owned library tested with realistic examples gives the team a stronger foundation than a large collection of repetitive frames.
